The Green Party Provencher Electoral District Association is pleased to announce that Janine Gibson will stand as the Green Party candidate for the 2019 Federal Election. The Elections Act requires that there be a federal election before October 21, 2019.
Janine has a great depth of experience in both political service and political action. She has represented the Green Party in a number of elections both federally and provincially. She lives off-grid and runs her own business as an organic inspector, a role which sees her frequently campaigning for improvements in government standards. She brings with her not only a devotion to ecological principles but a strong sense of social justice and responsible economics.
We continue to be committed to policies of sustainable economic development,environmental protection, cooperative democracy, and social justice. We were hopeful, in 2015, that Mr. Trudeau would bring in substantive changes to, among other things, environmental protection, electoral reform, and relationships with Indigenous people in Canada.Instead, we have purchased an expensive pipeline, swept problems with First Past the Post under the carpet, and paid only lip-service to the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
We believe that, unlike other parties, we offer a strong and clearly documented set of policies that cover a wide spectrum of concerns. In the coming months, we are looking forward to discussing these and other issues with supporters of sustainability across Provencher.

Thanks for your comment. We can certainly see how the Green stance on social media and accountability could be taken in a context of forcing you to be publicly identifiable.
As with many comments recently about Green policy, the reality is more nuanced. How do we protect people from hate speech, child exploitation, incitement to violence, harmful misinformation, if there isn’t some form of accountability? The Green policy would make it a requirement for all social media giants to ensure that there is a traceable identity behind anyone who posts. (Something like we have to do with Facebook to post political advertising – we had to verify who we are, personally).
It does not mean that you wouldn’t be able to post behind a pseudonym – because there are lots of good reasons to protect people’s anonymity online as well.
Here’s a quote from the Green Party:
“Those who spam, spread misinformation with the intent to manipulate public thinking or threaten and harass others should be held accountable for their actions, and we should do more to protect underage minors from adult content online than require them to check a box saying that they are of age. People should have some right to protect their identities online and to remain anonymous across the public spaces of the social web. But there still needs to be accountability so this would require some form of secure digital identity to be implemented.”
I´m not planning to share my real name or my real face to anyone online on any social platform. If you guys don´t like it, too bad.
I´ll create my own privacy prioritized uncensored social media platform, and there´s nothing you guys can do about it!
