Q&A with Janine: Indigenous Issues

Answer

Thank you for your activism on this important topic Stephen!

Yes. I agree reconciliation is crucial and must include concrete action on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

Please visit our website at www.greenpartyprovencher.ca for our Platform 21. Be Daring!

That platform outlines the many details of our Green Reconciliation plan.

Question

Dear Janine Gibson,

Federal political parties in Canada have articulated their commitments to reconciliation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples in Canada in party platforms and during televised leaders’ debates.

To address the historic and ongoing human rights abuses that continue to be experienced by Indigenous peoples across Canada, it is critical that the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the 231 Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls be fully and promptly implemented.

You are running to be the next Member of Parliament in my riding. I would like to know, should you be elected:

How will your party transform its election commitments on reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples into action?

What will you do to ensure the rights of Indigenous Peoples in our riding are respected, protected, and upheld?

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Stephen Nicholson
