Answer
Thank you Ian for your appreciation of my candidacy and for your activism! Party members worked very hard a few years ago to develop a balanced policy regarding Israel, Palestine, and BDS policies. This is still the official party policy and I support the official policy of sanctions against Israel.
My response is a measure of respect for democracy and political transparency in Canada. Thank you for sharing my response so my values are clearly understood. I hope you are in Provencher for I support your perspective and welcome your support Sept 20th. I support Palestinians rights, including their right to a state of their own based on the 1967 borders, the return of Palestinian refugee to their homes inside what is now Israel, and an end to eviction of Palestinians from their lands and homes, particularly East Jerusalem and the West Bank. This situation is so sad and must be addressed fairly!
I would continue to support international efforts to influence the Government of Israel to respect United Nations resolutions in support of the rights above.
No peace without justice!
Yes I would consider supporting economic sanctions against Israel if it does not respect UN resolutions. We need kinder more gentle government in these stressful times!

Question
Dear Ms. Gibson,
First, congratulations on your decision to stand for election to the Canadian parliament. This is an important undertaking and contribution to our democracy. Your party’s current position on the Middle East is unfortunately very unclear to voters, given that your leader Annamie Paul seemingly refuses to condemn the disproportionate use by Israel of military force against Palestinian areas even though the party’s official policy of sanctions against Israel still seem to be in effect. The constituents of your electoral riding deserve to know where you stand on the issue of Palestinian rights. I have three basic questions for you, and would appreciate your response to them as a measure of respect for democracy and political transparency in Canada. Please note that I intend to share your response or lack of response on social media without any comment of my own to enable voters to make an informed choice.
Do you support Palestinians rights, including their right to a state of their own based on the 1967 borders, the return of Palestinian refugee to their homes inside what is now Israel, and an end to eviction of Palestinians from their lands and homes, particularly East Jerusalem and the West Bank?
As an elected member of parliament, would you support international efforts to influence the Government of Israel to respect United Nations resolutions in support of the rights above?
Would you consider supporting economic sanctions against Israel if it does not respect these UN resolutions?
Kind regards,
Ian Shaw
